Edmonton Expos Announce the Co-Head Coaches for the 2025 13U AAA Team

The Edmonton Expos is thrilled to announce Ethyn Ames and Matt Macauley as co-head coaches for the 2025 13U AAA team. With their combined expertise, passion for the game, and commitment to player development, the upcoming season promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience for all.

Meet Ethyn Ames
Ethyn brings a wealth of experience as a coach and former player with a deep connection to the Expos organization. His decade-long involvement in competitive baseball includes playing at the AAA level and earning provincial gold as both a player and coach. Most notably, Ethyn was part of the coaching staff in 2021 that led the Edmonton Expos to their first-ever 13U AAA Provincial Championship.

Ethyn’s coaching résumé focuses on pitching, hitting, and fielding development, alongside his instrumental role in winter training camps and fall ball programs for SJP. As a coach, Ethyn emphasises skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. His philosophy is rooted in creating a positive and competitive environment that fosters growth both on and off the field.

Meet Matt Macauley
Matt’s coaching journey has been defined by dedication, a focus on fundamentals, and an emphasis on balancing team success with individual growth. After a playing career that included competitive high school baseball in BC, Matt transitioned into coaching, bringing years of experience mentoring young athletes.

In 2024, Matt was part of the coaching staff that achieved a historic milestone for SWEMBA by winning its first-ever 13U AA Tier 1 Provincial Championship. That same team went on to win a silver medal at the Western Canada Baseball Championships, cementing its place as one of the top teams in the region.

Matt’s coaching highlights also include leading multiple 11U AA teams to success, and his coaching philosophy—founded on practising hard, building good habits, and having fun—aligns perfectly with the Expos’ mission of developing well-rounded athletes.
